We Stopped Waiting to Be Hired
We started HI as what we thought was a straightforward proposition: senior delivery capability, available on demand. Embedded when you need it, gone when you don't.
While that is still true - we're open to being contracted, and if a project aligns with how we think, we'd love to hear from you. But somewhere along the way, the model shifted underneath us.
HI came about because we couldn't find the roles we were looking for. Senior. Flexible. Real. We didn't want to be under-employed, our skills going to waste. We have genuine capacity to do meaningful work, however not the capacity, or the desire, for a full-time contract. Those roles were scarce.
So instead of waiting for someone to create it, we decided to prove it could exist by using our own skills to build it. That's the pivot.
HI isn't just a consultancy for hire anymore - it's a collective of changemakers, doing our own projects, in the areas we already understand best.
Why this, why now
Every project or idea we've picked up has come from a problem we've lived, not just noticed. Eva's clinical and lived experience. My background in project delivery and the systems side of business. Between us, we kept running into the same gaps other people were running into too, and instead of writing another report recommending that someone else fix it, we started fixing it ourselves.
That's how projects like Early Connections, Sensory Sisters, and our work with Collective Movement came about. Some are still finding their feet. Some are established. All of them exist because we went looking for the thing we needed and it wasn't there.
What doesn't change
This isn't a pivot away from delivery work - it's proof of it. Every project we build is still held to HI standards: business rigour, a clinical lens, and lived experience, applied properly. If you've seen what we're building and you've got a project that needs the same approach, we're still very much open to being contracted to make it happen.
What's changed is the order of operations. We're no longer leading with "hire us to solve your problem." We're leading with "here's what we've already solved", and inviting the right people in, whether that's as clients, collaborators, or fellow changemakers who are sick of the same gaps we were.
The honest version
If you've followed HI since launch, this might look like a rebrand. It isn't. It's what happens when you stop trying to fit into a job that doesn't exist and start building the thing you actually needed. We're still small. Still figuring out which of these projects has legs and which was a good instinct that needs more time. But we'd rather build in public, imperfectly, than keep polishing a pitch for a role nobody was going to offer us.
If that's a collective you want to be part of - building, contracting, or just watching - we're glad you're here.
